  Our Wines

My wife and I established our vineyard at 1000m above sea level in the cool climate of Ballandean in the Granite Belt, QLD in 1999. We are a family owned and run boutique winery with a passion for creating beautiful wines. We have released our wines four years ago and proud to have James Halliday rate our winery 4.5 stars in his latest 2009 Wine Companion with 6 wines receiving a rating of 90 points or more! Our 2003 Reserve Shiraz won the first ever gold medal to go to a QLD winery at the 2005 Sydney Royal Wine Show and was the second highest scoring wine of the show – second only to Tyrrells Vat 1 Semillon.

Symphony Hill Wines 'Wild Child' Viognier 2006
“This extremely limited production Viognier is absolutely gorgeous, with complex flavours of honeysuckle, delicate fleshy apricot, and subtle grilled nuts.” Max Allen, Weekend Australian, 2008

Symphony Hill Wines Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2008
A fresh and crisp blend of lime, grass and herbal flavours with a zesty acid and passionfruit finish. An excellent match with seafood and Thai cuisine. Our Sauvignon Blanc is enjoyed at spectacular restaurants such as Il Centro, Marriott Surfers Paradise, Vinos and Tukka.

Symphony Hill Wines Reserve Verdelho 2008

Currently being served at spectacular restaurants such as Songbirds Rainforest Retreat, Vinos, The Lab Bar, Brisbane Marriott, Urbane and Pane e Vino. Queensland Verdelho – fabulous!

Symphony Hill Wines Chardonnay 2007
Rockmelon and citrus flavours blend harmoniously with creamy vanilla oak. This wine is a delightful blend of unoaked chardonnay with chardonnay aged on oak for 10 months. The result is a wine that has beautiful citrus fruit flavours that are complimented with scrummy nutty and vanilla oak characters.

Symphony Hill Wines Pinot Gris 2008
Lovely pear juice with ripe stone fruit characters explode on the bouquet. The palate displays enchanting mouth filling flavours of white peach, pear and apricot with a hint of nectarine that lingers forever. Currently being served at spectacular restaurants such as Songbirds Rainforest Retreat and Bretts Wharf.

“Its tight, clean, fresh citrus flavours reflect both a cool site in Stanthorpe and particularly skilful handling of fruit. A carefully crafted white with no trace of heavy alcohol or unbalanced sweetness.” Tyson Stelzer, Style Magazine, 2008.

Symphony Hill Wines 2005 Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon “DANYING”
This wine is a 50%/50% blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is a beautiful blend of raspberry and blackberry, exotic spice such as nutmeg and cinnamon balanced with sweet cedar oak. The Shiraz component (50%) gives the wine white pepper and spices, whilst the Cabernet provides the rich red and black berry fruits.

This wine is named in honour of our daughter, Zara Danying. We adopted our precious child, Danying, from China in the month of March, 2004, the very month these grapes were handpicked and crushed.

“Dan” means the essence of red-like this wine - strong and vibrant. “Ying” translates to a beautiful singing bird. Both sing a symphony, one with voice, one from the vines. Just as the wine is a blend of two varieties, weaving their individual strength and beauty, so too is our family now a blend of Chinese and Australian cultures.

10% of sales of this wine will be donated to the amazing organization, “Asian Kids In Danger” who support Asian orphans, slum children and women escaping prostitution.

Currently being served at spectacular restaurants such as Songbirds Rainforest Retreat, Brisbane Sofitel, Fraser Island, the Conrad Treasury and Tukka Restaurant.

Symphony Hill Wines Tempranillo 2007
A Spanish variety of wine becoming popular with wine lovers. “Temprano” is Spanish for “early” as it is one of the first red grapes to be picked. Like a Pinot Noir it is lighter in body but has much more attitude! Cigar box on the nose and raspberries and cherries and nutmeg and rich deer-horn soft velvety tannins on the mouth while still a young wine.

Symphony Hill Wines Reserve Shiraz 2006
Opulent berry and spicy fruit aromas with raspberry and white pepper that is beautifully enhanced with sweet sexy oak. The middle palate explodes with rich ripe flavours including dark plum liquorice and chocolate that flows onto a superb finish of integrated acid and silky tannins. SILVER medal at 2008 Sydney Royal Wine Show.

Symphony Hill Wines Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
A delightful infusion of ripe blackberry and mulberries enhanced by cigar box and cherry overtones. A distinctive attitude of silky smooth tannins wrapped in cool climate herbal overtones with a velvet mouth filling finish sets this wine way above other cabernets. 94 points James Halliday.

Symphony Hill Wines Reserve Merlot 2006
Huge dense spicy mulled fruit on the nose with dark cherry and vanilla intermingled. The palate displays abundant fruit cake flavours and rich raspberry and plum overtones. Encased in a savoury finish backed with lean acid and soft delicious tannins.

Symphony Hill Wines Reserve Petit Verdot 2006
Intense violets and spicy lifted fruit enhanced with raspberry and cherry aromas. The middle palate is attractive with ripe rich berry flavours with dried flower and cinnamon overtones. The mouth filling finish of elegantly balanced tannin and acid leaves the palate pining for more.

Symphony Hill Wines Winemakers' Blend Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Dark purple in colour with intense aromas of Ribena and blackcurrant. The huge and powerful middle palate of boysenberry and blackberry leads on to a finish of lip smacking intensity with creamy oak and gorgeous tannins.

Symphony Hill Wines Reserve Pinot Noir 2003
Symphony Hill Wines proudly present this uniquely complex and elegant medium bodied pinot noir.  This magenta coloured wine elegantly balances the combination of oak, silky tannins and rich fruit.  The flavours of plum, black cherries and violets mixed with cinnamon and earthy spice softly fill the palate.

This wine has been recommended by both Winestate and Winewise magazines.

Symphony Hill Wines White Serenade 2008
A German style medium sweet wine made from Gewurtztraminer and Riesling. A bunch of flowers sprinkled with honey! Beautiful spices and floral notes fill the mouth. Gorgeous with desserts, cheese platters and curries or sipped while enjoying a bubble bath!

Symphony Hill Wines Red Serenade 2007
This lovely wine is ideal for a night in front of the fire, eating Italian or a luscious plate of cheese and fruit goodies, with the strains of a romantic serenade in the background.  This medium sweet wine is a lilting blend of strawberries, a bouquet of confectionery, delicate oak with a lingering fruit finish.
